TESTIMONIO

Perpattal is 40 years old poor lady lives with her husband and 4 children in
Helen Nager a small coastal village. Her husband is a sick man does not do any
job. The burden of running her family was kept on her shoulder. She joined in
our group and she was not even able to pay her monthly savings due to the
poverty which was killing her but she was regular to the group meetings and
effectively participated.

She expressed her real situation and willingness to get institutional loan to
start a petty shop in her village. She was given Rs. 15,000 with this she has put
up a small petty shop attached to her house. She not only sales grocery item
rather Visiting this group regularly our staffs motivated them to have some IGP
programme. Our evaluation team graded this group and found they were active,
eager and the accounts maintenance was well done. The team recommended
this group for loan. Analysing the local resources the members had discussion
within themselves to start a handle making unit. For the time 8 members were
given Rs. 48,000 per each Rs. 6000. With that initial amount they started a
small handle making unit in a house. And for second time 6 members were
given Rs. 90,000 per each Rs. 15,000 as loan. This amount was also invested in
the handle making unit. Now all the members involve themselves in preparing
handles. If one kilogramme handle is made they earn Rs. 30 and they expressed
that these days they are able to earn Rs. 1,000 per month and they are sure to
earn more in the seasons. A member is able to make 5 kilograms per day that
means a member can earn Rs. 150 per day. With this income the day today
needs are fulfilled and amount is spent for their children school needs and
medical. They too express their gratitude towards you and they will ever remain
grateful to you.
